He also said that the district has a large number of small jewellers who may not be able to comply with the new rule.
Therefore, the BIS has given an exemption to the Idukki district until further notice. This means that jewellers in the district can continue to sell gold jewellery without the HUID number until the BIS is able to set up more hallmarking centers and ensure compliance with the new rule.This is just a temporary exemption, with time once adequate infrastructures are established no exemptions will be allowed.
